For as long as Roger Roessler has been making Pinot Noir, he has sought out the greatest vineyards in California. But if he was forced to pick just one site—a “Sophie’s Choice” so to speak—he would choose the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills. The first thing you notice about our 2012 S&B Pinot is the beautiful garnet red color. There’s an earthy element to the nose, but also striking whiffs of clove, spice and fresh plum coming from the glass. Flavors of clove and spice intermingle with a brooding fig undertone and finishing with a lovely gentle pepper. Built for aging, this wine is in its early stages and a great match for grilled steak or slow-cooked short ribs.
