Let’s Get This Started!

Richard and Roger Roessler during the 2011 harvest...

Welcome to the first post on our new blog, “The View From Just Off The Square.” I thought it would be a good name for a couple of reasons… First, our R Squared tasting room and world headquarters is located about a little more than a block south of the Square or Plaza in Sonoma. Second, I’d like to think that we’re doing some interesting and fun things with our R2 wines, so “off the square” or a little out of the ordinary seems appropriate. I’m hoping to do the same thing with this blog. Great wine, great food and serious fun is what it’s all about!

So what can you expect to read here every week? Pretty much anything and everything about what we are doing at R2 Wine Company – new wines, events we are producing or attending, winemaker dinners, news from our winemaker, Byron Kosuge, and some interesting stories (I hope!) and fun photos as I travel around the country promoting the wines.

Some of the posts you read will be short and to the point… while others will be longer, more in-depth stories with photos to accompany them. I really feel lucky to be a part of the food and wine world—I’ve made so many great friends and had so many amazing experiences. I also feel very lucky to be able to share some of these experiences with you here. Please share your comments with me here in the space provided. I’d love to hear about your experiences with R Squared wines as well! Over the years there have been so many that have reached out to let me know about the wine they had that was the perfect pairing, or how great it was to introduce to their friends for the first time. Now we’ll be able to keep them to look back on, and share with our other R Squared friends.

That was the main goal for this first post – tell you a little about what we’re going to be doing. There are also a couple of news items I’d like to share with you. I am really excited about some new wines we are adding to the lineup. From the 2011 vintage we’ve added an awesome Viognier and small bottlings of Roussanne and Carignane, all from the Camp 4 Vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley. We’ve also added a special sparkling wine called “Que Sera Sera” and a great Cabernet Sauvignon from the Bugay Vineyard in Sonoma Valley called “1331.”

Second, we have a big announcement coming very soon about changes to our tasting room and wine menus there. Watch this space for this and other developments.

My best to you and yours over the coming holidays!

Cin Cin….!
